Beyond Anime: The Story of Cowboy Bebop
Not many shows can stand the test of time but also continue to present an incredible number of interpretations long past their conclusion. Cowboy Bebop is such a show, and it is uniquely presented with such a wonderful pairing of dramatic and humorous narrative with an equally exciting soundtrack of space jazz that has made it a calling card that many have gone back to, time and time again, for inspiration and reflection.
But how does a show do this? How can it change people’s perceptions while, in reality, the episodes themselves cannot change?
Thank you to my incredible Patreons for continuing to support this channel. You guys are amazing.

Rediscovering '24': The Case for Reviving Jack Bauer
Просмотров 39521 день назад
There have been a lot of shows and movies rebooted over the years, but there remains one series in particular that has, sadly, never been brought back to life, and that is 24. Hands down, one of the most action-packed television dramas of the 21st century. It truly pains me to see a show like 24 just disappear from almost all mainstream relevance in today’s current streaming climate. This is a ...
Why Does The Bear Feel So Tense?
Просмотров 45921 день назад
When I think about the TV show The Bear, only one word comes to mind: chaos. This is a show that thrives on creating chaos and dealing with the consequences that occur as a result. But what about this kind of chaos makes it so interesting to watch? More importantly, how does it create such chaos, and does it relate to chaos theory? Thank you to my incredible Patreons for continuing to support t...
Peak Jazz - Listening to Cowboy Bebop's Epic Soundtrack
Просмотров 557Месяц назад
I’ve watched a lot of TV shows, but none have had a soundtrack so spectacular, so wonderfully whimsical, and so genuinely creative than Cowboy Bebop. This is a soundtrack to an anime that not only matches it in terms of quality but that, in my view, could potentially be one of the all-time great jazz albums. For someone who normally does not enjoy the unconventionality of the jazz genre, this i...
The Peak of Mediocrity - Listening to "The Tortured Poets Department" (Part 1)

Taylor Swift is one of the most successful music artists in the history of the music industry. But while I admire her success from an economic standpoint, her latest album doesn’t represent that same type of achievement. To put it more frankly, it is incredibly lacklustre and downright average. Which puts into question how she is still able to achieve so much by producing so little? The insane ...
No Country for Old Men's Haunting Legacy
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.2 месяца назад
Anton Chigur is the scariest man in cinematic history. He’s a character that has been so unnerving for me to watch because I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else so formidable and realistic while also being genuinely intimidating. Every scene he has in No Country for Old Men only builds upon his terrifying demeanour, which at first slowly draws you into his sick and twisted mind before ramping up ...
Rebel Moon: Make Zack Snyder Stop
Просмотров 1402 месяца назад
Zack Snyder might be a good director, but he is not a good storyteller. Now, of course, the definition of what makes a good director can be argued in semantics, and whether or not being responsible for the story falls under a director or writer’s responsibility is up for debate. But in any case, what doesn’t change is the fact that someone who has a good eye for visuals might not necessarily ha...
Chris Farley: The Funniest Man in the Room

If there were ever a bigger-than-life comedian who graced the halls of Saturday Night Live, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone better than Chris Farley. Born and raised in Wisconsin, Chris studied improv comedy at Second City before making it big on his true centre stage at Saturday Night Live. But what strikes me the most about someone like Chris is that he never seemed to accept his status ...
The Sad State of Hollywood

It’s official. Hollywood is running out of ideas. With the news that Margot Robbie is being tapped to develop a movie with Lionsgate based on the board game Monopoly, this has got to be one of the biggest jokes I’ve ever seen in cinema. In a world filled with creative independent artists and struggling filmmakers, isn’t there anything better than we could come up with? Hell, even ChatGPT would ...
Cinema's Most Unnerving Voice: The Legacy of Alex Garland
Просмотров 4262 месяца назад
For the past 20 years, Alex Garland has brought to life some uniquely strange and interesting worlds that have both been entertaining to watch and challenging to view. In my eyes, he is a filmmaker and storyteller who seems to enjoy riding this line of division between entertainment and discomfort, making us feel both excited to have watched his new body of work while also being fearful of what...
Witnessing the Unthinkable: The Horror of Talk to Me
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.2 месяца назад
In many movies, there are scenes where two characters are required to talk to each other, and often it’s because someone wants something from the other. Usually, this means that someone needs to win the scene. They need to walk away with something. And even if they don’t, the other person does, and it tells us something about the story to move on. Winning means everything because without it, th...

Shogun is an incredibly brutal but enthralling body of work. At this point, it’s safe to say that the debate for the greatest basketball player of all time is officially over. Now I know, this still feels strange to accept. From experts to barbershop ...

Vultures 1 by Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign is that a...

Of course, with anything so original and popular, there’s a...

The whole "human conciousness was a mistake" was probable taken from Ligotti's The Conspiracy Against Human Race, and Ligotti was talking about the ideas of Peter Wessel Zapffe, for example.

Intro was hilarious, but I strongly dissagree. I liked this season 4 very very close to how good season 1 was. Give it a shoot atleast. Some more themes is the dealing of trauma through confrontation, family shared pain. And of course the message of keeping on and not letting loss keep you from gaining new value in life. Pretty good stuff that is is useful in life, And personally I loved the ovarnatural elements and horror. And yes those caribou look dopey as hell.

I’ve realize that ever since I was 18 that entertainment has slowly becoming bad. No it does nothing with the 9/11 atrscks in the USA. That TV got so bad during the Streamkng boom around 10 years ago. Cable TV had to compete yet lost to streamkng. Streamkng slowly made too many cuts aroubd corners, cancelling shows, and removing their best material as time went on, they increased the prices, and added too many commercials.

My favorite part about these references that separates them from a lot of similar homages is the detail and effort put into making these shots and graphics as accurate as possible for a gag. Even super small things like the texture of the typography in the My Dinner With Andre and Hackers bits or the entirety of stuff like the Daredevil and Goldeneye 64 bits. I just love that Matt and Jay's comedy extends to the visual craft as well.

Season 1: Some edgelord who read Nietzsche and thinks he's deep spouts off a bunch of empty pessimism that sounds fancy but is only interesting because we know his character realizes he's been full of shit by the seasons end Season 3: Shit actual cops talk about while oblivious to their own role in a (for each of them, intimate) colonial context

Instead listening to the clown for laughter and a timeout of daily troubles, they listen to them looking for wisdom and knowledge delivered in a funny way. Wow

Stand-up comedy is such a wild world. I've never felt so much rubber-banding emotionally in any other artform. I think it is humanity at its deepest most vulnerable core. And also at its most enlightened and refreshing. It's so hard to explain, but I respect anyone who gives it a shot. Succeed or fail.
